This notice explains what Carter Cook Developments does with your personal data, why, and what rights you have. It covers this website and any enquiry or building work that follows from it.
Who is responsible for your data
Carter Cook Developments is the data controller — we decide how and why your personal data is used.
- Address: Cook Way, Broadbridge Heath, Horsham, West Sussex, RH12 3US
- Email: [email protected]
- Phone: 07850 420 779
We are not required to appoint a Data Protection Officer. If you have a question about this notice, email the address above.
What we collect and why
We only collect what we need. We do not buy personal data, we do not sell it, and we do not add you to a marketing list without asking.
| Why | What | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| Responding to an enquiry you send us | Name, email address, and whatever you write in your message | Legitimate interestsYou have asked us to get in touch, so replying is what you would reasonably expect. |
| Quoting for and carrying out building work | Name, address, contact details, details of the property and works | Performance of a contractWe cannot price or carry out a job without these details. |
| Keeping business and tax records | Invoices, contracts, correspondence | Legal obligationHMRC requires business records to be retained. |
| Measuring advertising performance | Cookie identifiers, pages viewed, whether you sent an enquiry | ConsentOnly if you accept cookies. You can withdraw this at any time — see below. |
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that don't become jobs: up to 12 months, then deleted.
- Customer records, contracts and invoices: 6 years after the work finishes. This is the period HMRC requires for business records, and it also covers the time limit for bringing a claim.
- Cookie data: as set out in the cookie table below.
Who else sees your data
We share personal data only with the following, and only as needed:
- Web3Forms — delivers website enquiries to our inbox. Your message passes through their systems to reach us.
- Hostinger — hosts this website.
- Google — advertising measurement, and only if you accept cookies.
- Subcontractors and suppliers — where a job requires it, for example giving a delivery address. Only what is necessary.
- Our accountant, insurers or legal advisers — where we are required to, or need to in order to defend a claim.
Transfers outside the UK
Some of the providers above are based outside the UK, or use servers outside it. Where personal data is transferred outside the UK it is protected either by UK adequacy regulations or by standard contractual clauses, which are the safeguards UK data protection law recognises.
Cookies
A cookie is a small file stored on your device. This site sets very few, and nothing beyond the essential one is set unless you accept.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Expires | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| cc_cookie_consent | This website | Remembers your cookie choice so you are not asked on every page. | 1 year | Essential — set either way |
| _gcl_au | Used by Google Ads to measure whether an advert led to an enquiry. | 90 days | Advertising — only if you accept |
If you choose Essential only, no advertising script is loaded at all — nothing is downloaded from Google and no advertising cookie is set.
Withdrawing your consent
You can change your mind at any time. Clearing this site's cookies in your browser removes your saved choice and brings the banner back, so you can choose again. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything done before you withdrew it.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy
- have inaccurate data corrected
- have your data deleted, where there is no good reason to keep it
- restrict how we use your data while a concern is looked into
- object to us using your data on the basis of legitimate interests
- receive data you gave us in a portable format, where processing is based on consent or a contract
- withdraw consent, where consent is the basis we rely on
To exercise any of these, email [email protected]. We will respond within one month, and there is normally no charge.
Automated decision-making
We do not make decisions about you by automated means, and we do not carry out profiling.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or by calling 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we use personal data we will update this page and change the date at the top.
